The fashion scenario has evolved to include a whole host of fusion attire but predominantly three choices top the list when it comes to Indian ethnic wear for women. Within these three options, you can always experiment a little but these Indian traditional dresses will never go out of fashion and these classics are a must have you in your closet. Let’s give you a little peek into this must have list.

#Six Yards of Elegance with Sarees

styles of sarees

  • Silk Sarees- With a myriad of options available in silk itself you can actually have a whole cupboard dedicated to them and still fall short on space. There is Kanjeevaram, Banarasi, Pochampalli, Patola, Paithani, Orissa Silk, Tussar Silk, Bhagalpuri silk, Kota Silk, Baluchari silk, Mysore Silk, Tanjore Silk, Tanchoi Silk, Organza Silk, and Raw silk. These are just of the most popular variants in silk sarees and owning one is like owning a treasured piece. Silk sarees add a royal touch to the look and with many celebrities making them a part of their wedding attire this past year, these sarees have gained back the popularity in which they once basked.
  • Net Sarees- These come mainly with intricate work done with mirrors, borders in velvet or embroidery, and with sequins. For now, net sarees are in vogue and you can add one to your collection as it is perfect for those not so formal occasions like a mehendi or sangeet function when you want to dazzle and a glitzy saree is just what you need.
  • Half and Half Sarees- Made out of two completely different fabrics and colors, this six-yard piece of clothing is a style statement. You can go in for a velvet and jacquard combination, velvet and net combination or net and Georgette combination.
  • Lehenga Saree- This one is essentially a saree but gives the look of a lehenga as the pleats are generally pre-stitched to have the look and fall of a lehenga.
  • The Others- You can fill volumes after volumes if you talk about sarees alone for there are so many types of sarees in different fabrics and styles like organza, cotton, Georgette, chiffon, and crepe to just name a few.

What’s trending - Indigo prints and Kalamkari print seems to be the flavor of the season and not too heavy on the pocket too. If you really like to be in sync with the fashion trends of the season you can pick one in each.

#Slay it with the Suits

different styles of kurtas

  • Anarkalis - They started out from the Mughal era and though they phased out for a while but have made a comeback with aplomb. Women keep experimenting with the lengths of their Anarkalis and from being knee length to calf-length, the ones popular today are almost ankle length with the churidar showing just a tad bit from underneath the kurta. Even the churidar is now being replaced by palazzos which are being paired with calf length Anarkalis which look super elegant with their voluminous look.
  • Kurta Salwar - The regular salwar is no longer fashionable but the Patiala salwar is still popular with a short kurta.
  • Kurta with palazzo - Palazzo pants and straight pants with kurtas are the hot picks of the season. The palazzos too can be flared, straight, ankle length or just a little above the ankle.  What you must own is cotton palazzos in white, black, beige and red with some Hakoba or Chikankari work.
  • Kurta with gharara/sharara- These were seen everywhere in the late fifties and early sixties when every girl wanted to be seen only in these. Hindi movies too played a large role in making them popular then and they are quite famous again with designers going back to the fashion of those years.
  • Kurta with a flared skirt- Long kurtas and maxi skirts is a perfect example of Indian ethnic wear which has undergone a transformation while sticking to its essence of being ethnic. Brocade and net is the preferred fabric when it comes to these flared skirts which can at other times be matched with a crop top, kurti or a choli.

What’s trending- Ghararas, shararas, and pants when it comes to the lowers. Foil print, kalamkari, and brocade seem to be trending when it comes to the fabric or design of the kurta. Lucknowi chicken work is a classic and has never been relegated to the backburner by the fashion world.

#In love with the Lehenga Choli

  • Traditional pieces - Kutch work, Leheriya, and Bandhani are some of the traditional lehengas that are never going to go out of flavor.
  • The cuts and designs - From backless and off shoulder to cold shoulder, choli designs are exuding oomph by the ton.

What’s trending - Pastel hues are ruling the color palette with mint green, coral, pinks, and peaches making for a good choice.
